Think And Grow Rich – Persistence

Happiness Millionaire_Look And Grow RICH_Persistence_Janet Jones_Napoleon Hill_Think And Grow RichPersistence: Overcome procrastination

Do you suffer procrastination? Have you ever found yourself going off to accomplish lots of menial tasks, rather than face the one thing that needs to be done with enthusiasm to get the results you want? Crazy isn’t it how we put off the most important things until panic sets in and we get to work!

  • Procrastination is the direct opposite to persistence.
  • Both persistence and procrastination are a mental state.  One is a positive high frequency state, the other a negative low frequency state.
  • Procrastination feels sluggish, slow, and lethargic, we see obstacles rather than opportunities. Little can be achieved in this state.

Without persistence, we are susceptible to failure and quitting. During this time we require constant effort and determination. It is an opportunity to practice the principle of Persistence! The high frequency state of persistence is enthusiastic and energetic. To get from procrastination to persistence we must keep moving forward no matter how slow that may feel. The state of persistence allows us to see opportunities and the motivation to take them. This high energy encourages us to leap into action, not seeing obstacles in our way. We could conquer the world.

When procrastination creeps in…

We all have those days where we lack energy, perhaps we have been working too hard and are tired. We are human after all. This is where procrastination seizes its opportunity. We must fight against it. Force yourself to act. Do not give in. Tomorrow is another day, just get through this one and make sure you have something positive to write in your journal at the end of the day.

When climbing the rock face of life toward our desire, sometimes our dream seems a long way off. Our energy levels will ebb and flow. Remember, unless your goals scare you they are not big enough. Every successful person experiences this. Keep making small moves forward. Take the risks when energy levels are at their optimum. Action creates emotion and emotion will feed your persistence. If you are suffering the low energy of procrastination, why not take yourself away from your task and get some exercise? This positive action will bring back your enthusiasm and off you will go again. Napoleon Hill advises ‘without persistence, you will be defeated, even before you start. With persistence, you will win!’

To overcome procrastination give everything you do a deadline. Setting times to our goals provides our minds with something to aim towards. Have you noticed how much more focused you are when a deadline is looming? Provide your own mind with the deadline. Procrastination causes us to drift and drifting leads to lack of fulfilment, leading to low energy, negative thinking and ultimately quitting.

‘Greatness is not where we stand but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it but sail we must, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.’ Victor Hugo
